Who is Your Favorite Character in Harry Potter?

Is it Dumbledore? Is it Harry? Is it Hermione or Ron? Can Hagrid have stolen the cup, or is Snape on the rise? Who? Who? Who?

MTV.com has been hosting a best character Harry Potter contest, which Snape won:

Who is you favorite character? Please provide personal justification because no nominees will be eliminated.

I will step out, as such a delcaration is not easy, and claim Neville as my favorite character.

Time to name your favorite character! Do so in the comment section!

  1. My favorite character is Snape. The man is passionate and dark, someone that I hated until the very last moments of the final book, playing his role as a double agent with great skill. I simply admire his determination and refusal to give up on the woman he loved, despite her abandonment of him in favor of James Potter. Snape has many layers that add a pleasing level of unexpectedness when pulled back.

I also like Ron because of his bumbling sarcastic comic relif. :)

  2. I like Snape a lot, too, and I agree with your characterization. From my viewings of most of the Potter films, I must say that Alan Rickman's portrayal is masterful. He is one figure from the movies I did not mind taking over my imagination. But can we say some of the same things about Dumbledore? Dumbledore has the advantage of old age and the incurring experiences with which he made amends for any darkness in his youth. Is there any other character who is as intentionally humorous as he is? Ron, maybe, but some of his humor is unintentional (I do not like imagining him eating).

I found Neville annoying until we truly experienced the tragedy of his parents at St. Mungo's Hospital. I loved the descriptions of his determination at the DA meetings, his casualness or acceptance regarding the condition at Hogwarts in "Deathly Hollows," and found it most fitting that he should destroy Nagini, Voldermort's snake the horacrux, before the final scene. I even cheered him when he went to one of the school events/dances with Ginny because he did not wait around to ask (a sign of his growing courage?).

I think I will soon do a post on the humor found with the series. There are certainly plenty of examples!
